GPL Virtualmin is not creating user groups on setting up a new virtual server/domain

i tried every possible way, but when i want to setup a new domain and a virtual server for it, Virtualmin gives me an errors saying, it cant create the group for the "Group for mailbox users". it doesnt matter, if i enter the information by hand or let Virtualmin create it automatically. the funnny thing is, it will say it can't create the group, but the group is created!

i am using the latest version of Webmin and Usermin on SuSE 9.3, PHP 5, mySQL 4.1.x and of course latest version of Virtualmin. Hope somebody will have an answer or a fix for this, since it really doesnt make sense to first create a virtual server by hand and then import it to Virtualmin, which i had to do now several times. Other than that Virtualmin is running smooth and it is a great help to administrate web servers.

I've added a FAQ for this question, as it has come up a couple of times:

i am pretty sure other SuSE users might have the same problem.

Hi,

I am getting the same error

********************************************
* Creating home directory .. *
* .. done *
* *
* Creating Unix group exampledomain .. *
* Failed to create Unix group! *
********************************************

I turned off nscd from Webmin Bootup and Shutdown on bootup and also terminated the process, I checked using the Running Processes module and the process is no longer there.

I also shutdown the process from command line using nscd --shutdown.

I still get the same error!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Gaurav Misra

It only happens when I try to store users and groups in an LDAP database.

I've checked my LDAP settings, I can add Users and Groups throught the LDAP Users and Groups Moudle and also from Other computers on the network using various Java and Windows Clients.

Also when I check the LDAP Users and Groups Module it shows the group that Virtualmin thinks it failed to create.

Is there a nscd equivalent service for LDAP too ;)?

Thank you,

Webmin's LDAP Users and Groups correctly creates Users and or groups.
When I user Virtualmin I get the group creation but the user never gets created.
What objectClass properties are required by virtualmin using Ldap?

Thanks for Your help
