server alias doesn't work

Hi,

I try to create a server alias. I do it like it is written here: http://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/id,virtualmin_for_cpanel_users/.

So there is no error but the alias doesn't work. I checked the host file for the parent virtual server but the alias wasn't added to the config file. "Create alias websites by Add ServerAlias to parent" is selected in the server template.

Where is the problem?

My system: Debian Linux 4.0 Virtualmin 3.64.gpl<br><br>Post edited by: f_richter, at: 2009/01/21 00:17

Howdy,

So when you clicked &quot;Create&quot;, did Virtualmin display a series of tasks that it's performing?

I guess I'm curious if the alias you added exists within any of the Virtual Host files there.

Do you get any hits if you type this:

grep YOUR_ALIAS_DOMAIN /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/*

Have a good one,

Hi Frank,

Sorry, I might not have been clear -- I meant that you should file a bug report if it's not working the way it's supposed to.

So, just to go over all this -- you're saying that in the Server Template in the Apache Website section, that &quot;Create alias websites by&quot; field is set to &quot;Add ServerAlias to parent&quot;.

But, when creating a Virtual Server alias, it does not add a new ServerAlias parameter to the parent?

Does that seem to be the issue you're having?

Hi,

this sounds like my problem. The alias will be created and it is visible in the virtualmin backend but there is no ServerAlias parameter added to the parent.

Sorry if I misunderstood you because of the bug report but i thought you will write the report.

Greetings Frank

Hi Frank,

Yeah, that may be a bug then.

If you could, I'd recommend filing a bug report using the Bugs and Issues link below.

I can't really do it for you, as Jamie is going to want to ask you some questions about the problem.

Thanks!

Hi.

Yeah there are some tasks:

[code:1]Creating home directory ..
.. done

Saving server details ..
.. done

Configuring AWstats in karrieremitplan.de ..
.. done[/code:1]

The domain &quot;karrieremp.de&quot; should be a alias for the domain &quot;karrieremitplan.de&quot;. In /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ only the config file for the virtual server (&quot;karrieremitplan.de.conf&quot;) exists.
I found a bug report [url=http://www.virtualmin.com/index.php?option=com_flyspray&amp;Itemid=82&am.... This article describes what you must do to have add a ServerAlias entry automatically. I checked my settings and my system cofniguration is correct.

Okay. I'd go ahead and file a bug report then, using the Bugs and Issues link below.

Jamie may need to look at that to figure out what's going wrong.
